My name is Shane Mickelsen, and I teach voice, piano, and
music composition. My purpose is to support my students
by helping them make music a meaningful part of their lives.
I want to give to them what my teachers gave to me:
B.M. Vocal Performance (piano secondary instrument)
M.M. Music Composition
Professional Composer/Arranger (#1 Billboard)
confidence, skills, and tools.
I'm a creative mind by nature, but I also love science and technology. This allows me to relate on a technical level to students who think literally, as well as relay important information to students who think in a more abstract manner. No matter how your brain works, my job is to help draw out the music that already lives inside of you.
As a vocalist I am classically trained offering lessons in classical and musical theatre styles. As a piano teacher my focus is on comfortable and sensitive playing. We balance scales, technique exercises, pedagogical repertoire, and good literacy skills to make piano playing a true joy!
As a composer, I specialize in writing for the string orchestra, however I also write for band, full orchestra, piano, choir, and vocalists. My experience ranges from baroque counterpoint, 18th century voice leading, 19th century romantic textures, to free-style atonality, folk rock, new age, and classical crossover. Whatever you want to learn, we'll learn it - preferably starting from the basics.
B.M. Vocal Performance
Metropolitan Opera Nation Council Auditions Winner 2014 - Utah District
My name is Kacee Mickelsen, and I teach voice lessons here in Riverton, Utah. My experience includes singing numerous lead roles in musicals and operas, singing with Utah Festival Opera, Utah Chamber Artists, and winning at the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions - Utah District. I teach classical
and musical theatre styles.
Performing has always brought me joy, wonderful friendships, and the opportunity to live up to the challenge. Music is a beautiful gift that I love to share both as a performer and as a teacher. I've dreamed of sharing my love of music with my students since I was very young and love that I get to do that every day.
